PCManFM 1.2.1

Another update of our file manager PCManFM, tones of bug fixes and new implementations:

  • fixed dragging and dropping icons behavior
  • fixed icons positioning
  • fixed resetting cursor in location bar
  • corrected folder popup update on loading
  • reordered ‘View’ menu item
  • implemented drawing icons of dragged items
  • etc.

Also a huge update and bug fixing in libfm libraries (1.2.1) too. You can use this updated version in Lubuntu Trusty Tahr. For that you must add the Lubuntu Daily PPA if you hadn't do it. Just open LXTerminal and type these commands:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:lubuntu-dev/lubuntu-daily
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install pcmanfm

  1. Nice! Yes, 1.2.1 (was testing the alpha throughout) is a great piece of work again. BUT I would recommend to remove this PPA again afterwards, provided you want to stay with LXDE (since LXQT is still quite unstable, afaics).
Because, supposing you want to do an apt-get upgrade sometime, the install system will decide that you _cannot_ keep both LXDE and LXQT on your system, causing LXDE to be gracefully removed under the hood, leaving you behind the still-unstable LXQT.
You may, of course, exclude everything LXQT when using the upgrade functionality with said PPA; however, accomplishing this task is not for the faint of heart.

  2. What I do not recommend at all is having LXQT for now. And of course a combined system with both libraries. Having a daily PPA is normal if you continue using your traditional desktop and do not use experimental features. The risk is installing QT things now, not updating your existing environment.

  3. Exactly. And as I wrote above, getting these "QT things" excluded is far from easy. I've seen a post on the stackexchange network, which mentions index numbers deliberately set to low values so these are skipped.
Or, in other words, it would be great if everything LXQT was NOT contained in the daily PPA, but was moved to a separate package.

    >What I do not recommend at all is having
    >LXQT for now.
    I can't agree more. :)

  4. In some way I'm agree with you. Daily is for checking the sanity of the newer compilations of current works, Staging is for future global updates. So we should have an Experimental PPA or something like that. But if you don't install nothing QRish, your system will remain stable. And I don't usually recommend this in this blog. But you're right, Andy.

  5. You need to add the "ppa-staging" there is this update.

  6. Why ppa-staging?
Looks you didn't get the gist of it? I was talking about *excluding* the LXQT stuff whilst keeping up with the dailies at the very same time.

BUT, since the LXQT stuff is merged _into_ the lubuntu daily PPA---and not outsourced as I had suggested just before---things may get tough to keep to non-QT LXDE and get all other updates from lubuntu-daily.

  7. try:)

  8. Rafael, you need to start an anti-spam campaign on here. Many comment sections have been littered with that nonsense now.

  9. I use built-in anti-spam filters. They use to work, but sometimes...

    Thank you, Andy.

  10. Does anyone know, how to install it directly (for a pc without internetconnection)?
    the file from here:

    there's a install-sh
    but it's not doing anything.

  11. @Lukas: I'm afraid it's impossible, more or less. The only solution is downloading an updated ISO containing the latest packages available, and I recommend Lubuntu because of that, which is shipped with a very modern version of PCManFM.

  12. Thank you very much for your information. It worked very good. I was struggling with the default hidden files in home folder.
